Indie rock band The Last Dinner Party, winners of BBC's Sound of 2024 in January, have topped the UK album charts with Their first album, Prelude To Ecstasy, which outsold records by Taylor Swift, Noah Kahan and The Weeknd.
According to the Official Charts, the album had 32,800 chart units, which connects both sales and streams. The group wrote on their Instagram, "Recorded amidst the enchanting echoes of church studios in crouch hill in january '23 is now yours to love, cherish and worship," showing how this album is truly a representation of their sound. The group reached out to Radio 1's chart show to thank fans and listeners for supporting the album. "Thank you so much for playing it and listening to it and helping us and supporting us," said singer Abigail Morris. Formed four years ago while at university the group developed a following before releasing their debut single "Nothing Matters" in 2023. Now the fan base has grown as the group performs in packed stages and has supporters like Hozier and Florence + The Machine who they will go on tour and win the Brits rising star award, which they will be collecting at the O2 Arena in March. Their debut album was produced by James Ford and released by Island Records last week. The album sold 14,000 copies on vinyl - the highest weekly total for an album since Oasis re-released their compilation album The Masterplan last November. The group will be continuing their tour and have announced that they will be starting their North American part of the tour in March.
