While System of a Down has treated fans to various performances in recent years, such as their sets at the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas, enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting a full-fledged tour from the band.

Serj Tankian recently addressed speculation about the group's touring plans, giving a much-awaited update on their potential future on the road.

The musician recently sat down for an interview with LiveSinging, during which he promoted his new book, Down With the System. He also gave fans hope about the group's future plans.

Tankian said he loves to perform for his supporters, but when it comes to going on a long tour, it's exhausting for him.

"I think when you do a long tour, it's not just physically exhausting, but it's artistically redundant after a while, repeating the same thing," he said.

He also noted that it was why the band only goes on one-off shows, as they're considered special events.

"We can't do them everywhere, we can't do them all the time," he added.

Tankian noted that he has back problems, and it's one of the main reasons why the band has yet to tour again. On the bright side, being off stage allowed him to focus on himself by getting more exercise.

Speaking about going on tour in the future, the singer said he's "open to looking at stuff," but he's not thrilled about doing lengthy tours.

"Just one-offs, or maybe a handful of one-offs with dates in between," he said.

This wasn't the first time Serj Tankian spoke about not wanting to go on tour anymore. He told Revolver  last year that he was dealing with "other things" at the time, and his decision not to perform at a series of concerts was also a "lifestyle decision" based on "family and vision."

He clarified that performing for his fans is fun and profitable, and he loves seeing their reaction, but after years of touring and the travel involved in the process, he said it's not his priority anymore.

Aside from their festival appearance last year, System of a Down has been inactive, also in terms of music releases, as their previous project, "Protect the Land" and "Genocidal Humanoidz," came out in 2020.
