Kate Hudson stopped by The Howard Stern Show this week to promote her upcoming debut album, Glorious, which she'll release on May 17. The actress talked about finally deciding to pursue music and performed one of her new songs, "Gonna Find Out."

"It's scary to put out your own work," Hudson told Stern of why she hasn't released her own music before. "It's the most vulnerable I've felt."

She told the host that mentally, "something happened during COVID" that made her realize she should go ahead and pursue this particular dream of hers.

"I was like, 'Are we gonna die? What's happening?'" Hudson recalled thinking during the early months of quarantine. "And when it started to calm down just a little bit, and I could be reflective of what my life creatively has been up until now, that is when I was like, 'I have to do music.'"

Hudson is best known for her run of popular rom-coms and her Golden Globe-winning breakout role as groupie Penny Lane in 2000's Almost Famous. But in 2021, Hudson starred in Music, a musical film directed and co-written by Sia. While the movie was panned, her relationship with Sia spurred her to explore music more seriously.

"She was the turning point for me, vocally," Hudson said of Sia. "She is a huge part of inspiring me to be more in music."

Hudson also performed two covers on Stern's show, "Voices Carry" by Aimee Mann's '80s band 'Til Tuesday, and Stone Temple Pilots' 1994 hit "Vasoline."

Speaking of her musical influences, Hudson told Stern that Madonna was her "hero" as a child. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Hudson told the outlet that playing Dusty Springfield or Stevie Nicks in a biopic would be a dream role because it would combine her acting and musical talents.

"I was asked if I ever would have wanted to play Stevie Nicks, and of course I think any actress ever would want to play Stevie Nicks," Hudson elaborated for Stern. "Especially people who love music. She's our number one rock goddess, she is the light."

Hudson is right about many actresses wanting to play the legendary Fleetwood Mac singer. Margot Robbie, Renee Rapp, and Lindsay Lohan are just a few that have mentioned it. Meanwhile, a decade ago, Nicks told Reese Witherspoon (who is just three years older than Hudson) that she would have been her first choice, but that she was already too old.

Hudson went on to say she was awestruck when she saw Nicks perform at a private event once. "Her witchy ways are real."

In January, Hudson released her first single from Glorious, a disco-lite pop track called "Talk About Love," which she co-wrote with her fiance, Danny Fujikawa, and celebrated singer-songwriter Linda Perry.
