In many ways, Lena Dunham feels "protective" of her friend, Taylor Swift.

The Emmy-nominated writer expounded on her realizations about how her good friend, Swift, has been subjected to unfair criticism by the public. Speaking to The New Yorker, Dunham said that Swift's personal life has been "so microscopic" and that her 20s have been held to a "set of outlandish standards."

"I'm always very careful to be protective of her in every single way," Dunham confirmed. "Probably the two things I get asked most in life are 'What is Taylor like?' and 'Can I have tickets to the Eras Tour?' And usually my answer to both things is no."

According to the Girls creator, Swift is "everything that you would want her to be."

"She's kind, she's devoted, she's introspective, she's emotional, she's funny as f---," Dunham said. "I guess my feeling sometimes is, Isn't she giving us enough, guys?"

Dunham has yet to watch Swift on tour, but she teased the publication that they might see her singing her heart out in one of the coming concerts.

"I like to sometimes go to the cities that are a little bit more off the beaten path," the actress teased.

In 2018, Dunham posted a lengthy message to Swift, cementing their lifelong friendship.

"This is a love note to @taylorswift I was a fan before I was a friend and her music formed the soundtrack to so much love & loss & discovery- late nights writing and early mornings weepy on the way to work. She had perfectly distilled the feeling of growing into yourself. When we became friends 6 years ago I didn't know she'd also prove to be the loyal and hilarious cat lady who loved me through every rough moment and the triumphant ones too," Dunham wrote.

According to Dunham, Swift revealed that Dunham never let her feel alone in their friendship.

"She's a fierce girl gang leader and a total mensch," Dunham added. "Tonight I was just a fan again, one of 60k who got our souls rocked by her artistry, her open heart and her killer gams. Love you forever, Tay."

Notably, Dunham appeared on Swift's star-studded "Bad Blood" music video in 2014, along with Gigi Hadid, Hayley Williams, Hailey Steinfeld, Cara Delavigne, Lily Aldrige, Selena Gomez, Zendaya, Karlie Kloss, Ellen Pompeo, Mariska Hargitay, and more.
