Foo Fighters held true to their promise and performed a show in Cesena, Italy, last night in response to an organization named Rockin 1000's successful attempt to lure the band to play a show in their distant suburb by filming 1,000 of its citizens and fans simultaneously performing the band's classic song "Learn To Fly." During the show, Dave Grohl invited the viral video's organizers onstage.
Thanks to fan-shot footage, you can watch the inspirational group's leader Fabio crowdsurfing to the stage where the band thanked him shortly after Grohl delivered a heartfelt speech. "To see you people, singing our song for the whole f*cking world, to me, it's the greatest moment of my life," Grohl said to the audience. "Of course we couldn't say no; we had to come. You trapped us; we had to come here."
The frontman added, "I hope you do the same thing for U2, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine—do it for all rock bands. And if they say no, you know what you say? Vaffanculo! [Italian for "f*ck you"]"
According to NME, the 27-song set included covers of Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust" and Sex Pistols' "God Save The Queen," as well as a rendition of Queen's "Under Pressure," for which the band recruited one of Rockin 1000's mohawk-wearing brethren to play drums.
Foo Fighters recently launched a countdown clock on their website, insighting speculation in regards to possibly a new album from the band and/or a new season of their HBO series Sonic Highways. Others think that it may just mean that Dave will finally be removing his cast when the clock strikes midnight on Nov. 23.
