Hard Candy is suing Katy Perry’s cosmetics company for copyright infringement. Gossip site TMZ obtained documents that show that the Walmart company is suing the parent corporation that produces CoverGirl, Procter and Gamble, over their heart symbol. The symbol appears on several of Perry’s products.
The TMZ report says, “Hard Candy says it’s had trademarks for 10 plus years … and the Katy line is infringing. not spelled out in the lawsuit, but it appears Hard Candy's taking issue with the heart in the middle of CoverGirl's Katy makeup logos -- since that's very similar to its logo."
The article further asserts Hard Candy is asking that Perry’s line be taken off the shelves and is also asking for a percentage of the profits that have been made since the spring launch.
According to NME, Perry was also recently in the middle of drama between Calvin Harris and his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift. In a series of tweets that were released July 13 where Harris additionally exposed that Swift did in fact help write his hit song, “This Is What You Came For," with Rihanna, Harris also addressed the long-running Swift and Perry feud. He wrote, “I know you’re off tour and need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry. I won’t allow it.”
Perry answered the drama by posted a video of Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton shrugging her shoulders on her Twitter page, and also retweeted a post from May 2015 that read, “Time, the ultimate truth teller.”
In other Katy Perry controversies, the singer was also criticized by Ryn Weaver for supporting Clinton's campaign and endorsing the Democratic candidate back in February. Weaver attacked Perry in a series of tweets that were deleted soon after, where she accused the "Roar" singer of being a liar and saying that Perry was being paid by the campaign for her endorsement.
