After 8 years, Chris Brown is telling his side of the story about the events that led to the night of his arrest for the physical assault of his then-girlfriend Rihanna. It is for his documentary titled “Chris Brown: Welcome to My Life.”
Brown started by revealing how he and Rihanna met in 2004 in New York City. He was 15 and she was then 16. They felt instant connection and their relationship got serious very quickly. Almost eight months into their relationship, Brown decided to tell Rihanna that he slept with a woman prior to their relationship. This was something he had previously denied to the “Umbrella” singer.
According to Brown, the Barbados native hated him after his confession. He totally lost her trust and she did not seem to care even if he tried everything to regain it. Brown revealed that their relationship went downhill and there were just too many verbal and physical fights – from both sides.
Chris Brown added that Rihanna would hit him and he would hit her. But, they did try to put a stop on their fighting according to People. "There was always a point where we’d talk about it like, 'What the f—k are we doing?’” Brown says. He did not want to feel the need to explain the scratch on his face when he has to go onstage.
Rihanna also needed to cover a scar or a bruise with makeup sometimes. During these instances, Brown said, “I felt like a f—king monster.” He never wanted to put his hands on any woman in the first place.
Everything came to head after they attended Clive Davis’ Grammy event in February 2009. The woman Brown had confessed to have had sex with previously approached them at the event. He insisted he didn’t know the woman would be there.
Although Rihanna started to cry, she seemed to gave gotten over the incident. They were both tipsy and laughing by the time they left the event. In the car, Rihanna saw a text message from the same woman, which made her to believe the rapper really knew she would be there.
After Rihanna hit him and threw the phone, Brown remembered that she tried to kick him but he then punched her with a closed fist that left her lip busted reports US Magazine. Although still in shock, he became even more enraged when she spit blood on his face and started hitting him again.
According to Brown, he pulled the car over to try to resolve the fight. Rihanna however faked to have thrown the car keys out of the window. When he went out to start looking for them, she yelled, “Help, he’s trying to kill me.”
