As previously reported, Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood revealed that he and his bandmates would be returning to the studio this fall to record their ninth studio album. To prepare for the upcoming sessions, Greenwood says he has begun emailing Thom Yorke with song ideas.
In an interview with The Sunday Times (via Consequence of Sound), Greenwood explained, "I was emailing stuff to Thom last night, actually. But it's not the same, is it? You don't see [Yorke] tutting."
When asked if there was a release date in mind for the record, Greenwood said they aren't ready for making those official announcements. "No! Release? No, no idea. No," he said, adding. "Our plan is to start making music soon. We've just got to get the inertia back."
Radiohead's last album, The King of Limbs, dropped back in 2011. The group has been on hiatus since ending the tour. In the time since, the band members have pursued solo projects, including Jonny Greenwood's classical work and soundtracks for filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, singer Thom Yorke's band Atoms for Peace with Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and drummer Phil Selway's second solo album.
As Greenwood previously noted, the band will begin rehearsing and recording in September.
