The Coachella Festival promoter will have to spend millions of dollars after Frank Ocean officially quit the lineup.

Ocean's representative confirmed to Variety that the singer would no longer headline weekend 2 of the festival after suffering an injury. The health issue led him to rework his supposed setlist at the event, leading concertgoers disappointed by how he started late and left early during weekend 1.

Instead of Ocean, Blink-182 is set to headline the upcoming weekend.

Coachella Festival Promoter To Out Millions of Dollars

Sources told Billboard that Frank Ocean's exit from the Coachella lineup would cost the festival promoter, Goldenvoice, millions of dollars.

According to Billboard insider, the promoter spent millions of dollars to build the giant ice pad that was supposed to welcome over 100 skaters as part of Ocean's weekend 2 performance. Since it cannot be used as a public ice rink, the team started strategizing on how to use it in another performance.

Apart from that potential loss, Goldenvoice will still pay Ocean $4 million after completing his first weekend performance. The "White Ferrari" hitmaker was to be paid $8 million in total, but the remaining $4 million would be given to Blink-182 instead.

However, the Coachella Festival promoter will also need to pay the newly-announced artists - Fred again.., Four Tet, and Skrillex - who are set to offer a closing performance.

Goldenvoice also needs to settle the $45,000 in curfew fines during Ocean's set as the singer played 25 minutes past the midnight curfew. Insiders said that the promoter should shoulder the cost as the festival staff spent 50 minutes the change the stage from Bjork's design to Ocean's set.

What Happened to Frank Ocean?

The Empty Netters podcast, hosted by former hockey players Dan and Chris Powers, detailed the extensive rehearsal Ocean's team did on the customized ice rink.

The hosts revealed that it took the skaters and professional hockey players more than a month to prepare for the performance.

"For about a month, we've been doing rehearsal, we've been hanging with Frank," Dan said. "We've been hanging with the other skaters. Hanging with these incredible figure skaters. Going through this whole process, it's this huge ordeal."

Chris added that there were supposed to be 120 skaters to perform with Ocean to deliver the singer's first major performance since 2017 as perfectly as possible. However, the former hockey players reportedly knew that "wheels started to fall off" when the call times for makeup and wardrobe were rescheduled Tuesday before the weekend 1 show.

The handler reportedly asked them if they still wanted to participate after some figure skaters were cut from the show. However, both of them declined but clarified that they had nothing but respect for Ocean.
