Janelle Monae and Lupita Nyong'o have an undeniable chemistry, despite not even starring in any films together yet.

That is probably why fans have been shipping the pair non-stop after meeting for the first time at the 2014 Met Gala.

"She has magnetism that they were obviously picking up on," Nyong'o explained to Rolling Stone. "She is that enigmatic. People are curious about enigmatic people."

Despite having a boyfriend, Selema Masekela, of her own, the "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" star is not too bothered with the fans constantly shipping.

"I'm not surprised," she continued. "I don't mind being associated with her in any capacity."

Life Long Friends

Aside from looking like a great couple and being best of friends, fans think that there might be more to the pair's relationship because Monae is pansexual.

According to Teen Vogue, being pansexual means "being attracted to all people regardless of gender identity or sex."

Pansexual is under the bigger umbrella of being bisexual, and some tend to confuse the two.

However, for Nyong'o, the actress slash singer is a very good friend, and being associated with her is a great thing regardless of the context. She takes pride in that.

"Just because you're a close friend of hers doesn't mean you get to know everything about her. I think that's what makes her interesting as an artist," Nyong'o admitted.

Janelle Monae and Privacy

Monae also talked about her privacy in her Rolling Stone cover story. She affirmed that despite being a public figure, she likes to keep several parts and details of her life to herself.

"I have a policy and agreement with myself - that is a part of my life that I want to keep private," the "Dirty Computer" singer said.

"I can talk about my identity, I can talk about my sexuality. I can talk about all things Janelle Monáe without having to go into detail."

"I'm not obligated to share my story. Nobody's obligated," she added.

While the pair did not exactly debunk the rumors, it seems like the privacy comment is enough to deter fans from speculating any further, after all, the pair are enjoying each other's company regardless of how fans see them as: lovers or friends. That is up to them.
