Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington's death leaves lingering pain among his fans six years after the tragic event happened.

On July 20 six years ago, the news about Bennington's death shocked the world as he was found dead by hanging after multiple suicide attempts in the years prior to that. He died on his friend and mentor Chris Cornell's birthday, and the late Soundgarden member also passed away nearly two months before him.

Fans all over the globe took their time to remember Bennington and revisit his life as a musician, paying tribute to him on his sixth death anniversary this year.

Remembering Chester Bennington

On Twitter, Linkin Park and Bennington's fans penned messages as they continued to carry the loss six years after the vocalist died.

One said, "It's crushing to think it's been six years today since we lost Chester Bennington; it would've also been Chris Cornell's 59th birthday today. Two voices of a generation who are sorely missed everyday."

"Remembering Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, who left an indelible mark on the music world," SiriusXM host Eric Alper wrote. "It's been 6 years since we lost him, but his voice and passion continue to inspire millions. Let's honor his memory by spreading awareness about mental health + supporting those in need."

Though Bennington's music remains in demand despite his demise, Mike Shinoda clarified in May that Linkin Park does not want to play with a hologram version of the vocalist in its tours. He told DJ Theresa Rockface of 94.5 The Buzz during an interview that he is not into holograms despite being widely used in the music industry.

The Linkin Park founding member's comment mirrored what he proclaimed during an Instagram Live question-and-answer session a few months after Bennington's death, saying that seeing a holographic version of the vocalist would be "worst." Shinoda also said Linkin Park touring with Hologram would be an awful ideal; thus, the band has always been fully against it.

Chester Bennington's Death, Career

Chester Bennington died on July 20, 2017, by hanging, though the authorities who investigated his death also found a prescription for generic Ambien with one pill divided in half, a glass of Corona, and an empty bottle of Stella Artois at the scene.

According to the autopsy report following the conclusion of the probe, the results were "characteristic of suicidal hanging. There was a history of suicidal ideation."

His wife, Talinda, also revealed that Bennington had several suicide attempts in the years prior to his death, including a 2006 incident when he left the house with a gun.

Bennington, though he was famous for leading Linkin Park to fame, also served as a lead vocalist in more bands, including Stone Temple Pilots, Dead by Sunrise, and Grey Daze. His successful career led him to appear in magazines' top vocalists lists, including in the Top 100 Metal Vocalists of All Time by Hit Parader Magazine.
