Katy Perry is widely considered one of the biggest pop stars of this generation. Although she is not as commercially successful and dominant as she was decades ago, she is still considered by many as one of the last biggest pop stars.

Now, debate on social media was ignited after one user claimed that Perry had become a "nobody."

Did Katy Perry Become A 'Nobody' Already?

According to user itgirlposts on Twitter/X, Katy Perry " went from being the biggest pop star on the planet...to a nobody-," posting a photo of her from "American Idol."

"it's honestly so sad because she literally could not be competed against during her prime," the user continued to say.

While some on the thread agreed that Katy Perry's career took a dive, many defended her honor and pointed out that she is still flourishing like her peers.

"Stan twitter lives in a completely different reality lol. Katy is far from a nobody and will never come close to being one," a user said. "She's getting paid $30m a year to be a judge. Still has over 50m monthly listeners despite not releasing any major hits lately. And has a residency in Vegas. She'll be just fine."

Katy Perry Now 2023

Currently, Katy Perry is a judge on "American Idol," along with other music legends like Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

Another commented: "calling her a nobody is really weird energy. she had her time in the spotlight and is more successful than 99% of artists will ever be. maybe she's happy and doesn't want or need all that anymore.. i know this is a hard concept for stan twitter to grasp but there's more to life."

"Her legacy will never be undone. She's literally one of most iconic pop girls of all time, she will never be a nobody. And she's definitely the most legendary of her class," another chimed in.

"She might not be a hitmaker anymore but she still has a Las Vegas residency, a multi million dollar contract with American Idol, I wouldn't say that's something a "nobody" can get," a user pointed out.

Earlier this year, Katy Perry notably sold her music rights to Litmus Music, which was priced at $225 million - this includes all of her five albums from Capitol Records - from "One of the Boys" to "Smile."

True enough, Perry is still flourishing as she is still selling sold-out stadiums for her Las Vegas Residency at the Resorts World Theatre. She was reported to have earned $6.98 million for only eight dates. (via Billboard)
