Great news for fans of The xx! One of the members has now confirmed that they're finally working on a new album and brand new music might come out soon; check out all the details below.
Romy, who focused on her solo music career throughout 2023 and released her debut solo LP titled "Mid-Air," gave an update about her band's new project.
The musician was at the Beyond The Valley Festival in Australia when she was asked by the press about the group's plans, and she finally confirmed that they are working in the studio.
"Yeah it's fun, it's quite different being in the studio with The xx," she said. The singer further noted that she and her bandmates Oliver Sim and Jamie xx have "all tried new things and learned a lot from different projects." (via NME)
She added that it's a healthy conversation between her and her bandmates to ask each other about the individual things they learned and what steps should they take next.
"I think it's quite wide open and it's exciting to be starting again in a way. But we've started making some music and I'm really excited about it," she added.
What Should Fans Expect From The xx New Album?
Fans are curious about what the new songs would sound like, but it seems like they will have to wait for a while as Romy said they are still in the early process of creating the new album.
Regardless, she assured their fans that they will hear The xx's authentic sound.

"I still think you'll be able to tell it's us but I think we're excited to move it on and keep it feeling fresh," she told the press.
Not the First Time Romy Teased Fans About New Project
This was not the first time Romy gave fans an insight about the group's future plans as she also shared information back in 2023.
At the time, she spoke with Matt Wilkinson for Apple Music 1 to confirm that she was excited to work with her bandmates again and create more music in the future.
In addition, she also wanted to improve their sound "in a new way" because it's a part of an evolution process.
"I think I want to keep evolving though. I think we all do. That's why I wanted to do this project, to learn and specifically to work with other people. To learn how they work," she said.
The last time The xx released an album was back in 2017 with "I See You." As of this writing, Romy or any of her bandmates have yet to share an official release date for their next album.
