"Mean Girls" has officially arrived in theatres and moviegoers are actually shocked that singing is involved!

People on social media are shocked that what they thought was the remake of the 2004 film actually involved singing and dancing.

Here's What To Expect On New 'Mean Girls' Film

Contrary to popular belief, the new "Mean Girls" film starring Reneé Rapp, Angourie Rice, Avantika, Bebe Wood, Auliʻi Cravalho, Jacquel Spivey, and Christopher Brinney, is not based on the 2004 film per se.

In reality, it is based on the 2018 Broadway musical that Tina Fey developed based on her 2004 film of the same name - so you can drop the comparisons to the old film.

"This is a very specific version of the musical that has a really specific place in a niche, culty theater way, that I think expands it to maybe people who aren't super into theater," Reneé Rapp told People Magazine.

Meanwhile, producer Lorne Michaels reiterated to Entertainment Weekly that the new "Mean Girls" film is NOT A REMAKE.

"It isn't a remake, it's a new interpretation," he said. "It feels like a familiar enough story, but it's for today."

Tony-winning actor Jacquel Spivey had this to say: "We love it so much that we're going to make something fresh because we can't recreate it - it's too iconic."

The album cast recording for the new "Mean Girls" film has been released on streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, while it does not feature all the songs from the original Broadway recording, it still features fan favorites that are sung in the film.

Megan Thee Stallion and Reneé Rapp collaborated on the song "Not My Fault" for the end credits of the film.

"A Cautionary Tale," "Meet the Plastics," "Stupid with Love," "Apex Predator," "What's Wrong With Me?," "Sexy," "Someone Gets Hurt," "Revenge Party," "World Burn," "I'd Rather Be Me" and "I See Stars" are included in the film.
