Job Description:
Music Times.com is looking for a dynamic Associate Editor who has a passion for all genres of music and can handle gossip topics with journalistic integrity. We are looking for an enthusiastic, diligent and professional writer/editor who can join our team in its mission to enrich the lives of readers and artists. The Associate Editor will play an essential role in shaping the Music Times.com editorial vision by developing and following through with stories that are important and engaging for a broad yet discerning audience. In addition to having excellent editing skills and attention to detail, candidates must also be able to assist in planning, developing, and executing long-term content strategies, as well as manage a diverse community of writers, journalists, and contributors. Editors must be capable of catching hot topics and write numerous articles, meeting deadlines and goals. Candidates must be timely when delivering news stories, write compelling articles, drive traffic, and have great organizational skills.

Desired Skills and Experience:

• At least 2+ years digital journalism or relevant experience
• Demonstrated ability to explain complex subjects and write engaging copy
• Have an eye for important stories that fly under the radar and are routinely ignored by traditional news media
• Excellent editing, scheduling, story assignment, long-range planning of features,
• Beyond well-versed in SEO, CMS and Associated Press writing style
• Experience writing original exclusive and secondary stories using reliable sources while maintaining a unique voice
• Can turn around a story in less than 40 minutes if needed
• Can maintain weekly traffic goals set by company
• Bachelors or above preferred in Journalism or Media Studies

Daily tasks will include:
1. Copy edit stories on CMS using CMS checklist, Maximize SEO
2. Give writers the OK on exclusives/lists
3. Assign stories to writers
4. Set up interviews for writers and manage until posted (sent back to press people for them to also promote)
5. Update the homepage: Carousel, Featured Section, Editor’s Picks, Polls
6. Keep track of writers’ contract obligations and projects that they have in the works
7. Help writers brainstorm story ideas
8. Assist with videoshoots/podcasts for writers
9. Spearhead projects such as awards show coverage, holiday/end of year lists, festival coverage
10. Help apply for press credentials for writers
11. Keep track of all originals/exclusives in the works, update the board
12. Troubleshoot problems that writers have, be their liaison with tech/press people
13. Compile weekly reports
14. Bring up writer concerns to upper management
15. Work closely with Social Media Manager cross promoting priority content and contests on our social platforms
16. Set up exclusive premieres (music videos, music streaming) with press people
17. Can create memes
18. Editing/video production experience a plus
19. Open to wearing many hats
