Throwback Thursday: Celebrate Kurt Cobain's 47th Birthday with 'MTV Unplugged In New York'
Today (Feb. 20) marks what would have been Nirvana frontman/grunge leader Kurt Cobain's 47th birthday. Though, of course, this year marks 20 years since he took his own life, his groundbreaking music continues to live on. Even though Nirvana have released a slew of posthumous releases since 1994, for today's #ThrowbackThursday, we'll look at the very first one, and the album that somehow ended up feeling like a tribute to Cobain: Nirvana's acoustic record MTV Unplugged in New York. -

NME Lists Its 500 Best Songs of All Time
"Greatest songs of all time" lists are nothing new, but we admit we're curious to see what the folks at NME have come up with. After all, the magazine emphasizes rock from the U.K., and the U.K. has produced many of the most influential groups of all time. Interestingly, NME opted to shy away from the obvious big names, at least in its top five (only 500-401 and the top five have been released thus far). -
Listen to New Recordings From Dave Grohl's Old Band Dain Bramage
Dave Grohl has been involved with plenty of bands, but people will always bring it back to Nirvana. Even as Grohl enters his 20th year as the leader of the Foo Fighters, his reputation is still based more on his four-year tenure with Nirvana (fans of the latter band know he wasn't even with the band on its debut, Bleach). And of course, Grohl was involved with other groups before he came to Nirvana. One of those bands was Dain Bramage, and eight of its tracks from 1986 were recently dug up. -

The Cosmic Psychos: Grunge Influences Are Yeomen by Day, Australian Punk Legends by Night
If you ask Ross Knight, bassist and vocalist for Melbourne's Cosmic Psychos, how he regarded the band, he'd probably refer to it as a "hobby." Members of the bands the Psychos have influenced (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, The Melvins, L7) tell a different story during the new documentary "Blokes You Can Trust." -
