Pitbull Being Sued for 'Timber' Because of Similarities to Lee Oskar's 'San Francisco Bay'
Pitbull won his last major lawsuit (an alleged slander case from actress Lindsay Lohan) but he might be in trouble with his new one. Lee Oskar, a longtime harmonica player for the group War, accuses Pitbull and producers of infringing on the copyright of his solo track "San Francisco Bay," which was released during 1978, when crafting 2013's smash hit "Timber." -
Brazil Not a Fan of Official World Cup Theme
So not everyone is a fan of "We Are One (Ole Ola)," the official song for this year's World Cup. If American fans showed ambivalence it would be no big deal, but the citizenry of this year's host nation, Brazil, have taken issue with the single, which is headlined by Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull. -
Pharrell Williams and 'Happy' Dominate Digital Downloads Chart
The Billboard 200 was awash with debut albums this week, but things largely remained the same over on the Digital Downloads chart. Although every track in the Top 10 is the same as last week, there was some shuffling. -
Pharrell Williams and 'Happy' Top Digital Downloads Chart for Second Week
This week was pretty boring on the Digital Downloads charts, as the top five songs remained exactly the same as last week. Among those top five there was a huge divergence in those who gained versus those who lost however. -
Pharrell Williams 'Happy' to Top Digital Downloads Chart
Things are looking optimistic for America, as Pharrell Williams' track "Happy" rose to the top of the Billboard Digital Downloads chart last week (not that a song named "Sad" was ever at the top). Williams got a continued boost from radio play, Beats commercials, DVD sales of Despicable Me 2, The NBA All-Star Game...just about everything. The track jumped 31 percent in sales and moved 329,000. -
Katy Perry Tops Digital Downloads Chart for Fifth Straight Week with 'Dark Horse'

Katy Perry Stays Second Week atop Digital Downloads Chart with 'Dark Horse'
An interesting trend has developed over on the Billboard Digital Downloads charts: A streak of two-week streaks. The previous five songs to hold the no. 1 spot in the Top 10 have appeared there for exactly two weeks before being replaced by a different song. -
Katy Perry Rides 'Dark Horse' to Top of Digital Downloads Charts; Aloe Blacc Rises with 'The Man'
The Top 10 albums from last week might not have featured too many new entries, but the Digital Downloads Top 10 indicates that new players are looking to make a run at the top. The top six tracks are all returnees, but nos. 7-10 are all new from last week. We'll start with the old favorites for the sake of numerical ordering. -
Pitbull, Ke$ha and 'Timber; Rule Digital Downloads Again
Last week's Digital Downloads Top 10 (Top 50 for that matter) all saw an increase in sales thanks to the giving of iTunes gift cards, etc. during the holidays. That resulted in this week's inevitable drop off for all of the songs in the Top 10, which all saw a decrease in sales from last week. That doesn't mean sales were bad however: Five songs still broke 200,000 in total downloads, up from the typical two or three. -
Pitbull, Ke$ha, Eminem and Rihanna End Year Atop Billboard Digital Downloads Chart
Music Times warned you that the final Digital Downloads' chart of the year would be chalk full of sales thanks to people cashing in on the iTunes/download cards they received for Christmas. And sure enough, it was a huge week. Every song in the Top 50 saw a sales increase, and 46 of those tracks saw rises of more than 100 percent (aka doubling in sales since last week).
