One Direction's New Song 'Fireproof' Downloaded 1.1 Million Times on 'FOUR' Announcement Day

One Direction's free new song "Fireproof" moved some huge numbers on Monday (Sept. 8).

Alongside the announcement of its new studio album FOUR and its release date earlier this week, 1D also made a first taste from the album, "Fireproof," free to download via OneDirectionMusic.com, and the track moved some huge numbers in just 24 hours.

Over 1.1 million copies of "Fireproof" were downloaded from OneDirectionMusic.com, on its only day of availability (Monday), according to Billboard.

The worldwide numbers helped to bring massive hype for the new 1D album, which also inspired over 1.7 million tweets and was a top Trending Topic on Twitter throughout the entire day. Even days letter, hashtags revolving around One Direction, "Fireproof" and FOUR are rampant throughout the social media site.

Though there is little precedence for a free new song from such a big name artist, Directioners are boasting about the record-breaking download numbers of "Fireproof."

The surprise new album announcement and release of "Fireproof" has led to FOUR reaching No. 1 on the iTunes charts in 67 countries, including the U.S., thanks to rabid fans reaching for pre-sales.

FOUR will not be officially released until Nov. 17. Fittingly, it will be One Direction's fourth studio album and the band's first new release since its 2013 album Midnight Memories.

A full tracklist, lead single and album cover for FOUR have not been announced.
