From one singer to another, Melissa Etheridge knows just how distracting Taylor Swift can be. The question is, will she be so distracting that Travis Kelce decides to retire from his own career just to be with her? Etheridge fears so!
Melissa Etheridge worries that Travis Kelce would quit the NFL to be with Taylor Swift full-time. I love how Swift shows her adoration for one of my favorite football players.
The "I'm the Only One" hitmaker stated, "I think he's an amazing human being and I think they're a great couple," on Friday's episode of Max's "Who's Talking to Chris Wallace?" "I'm just worried he's gonna retire early to be with her," she joked, grinning. She said this truly worries her.
She quickly backtracks though.
According to Etheridge, 62, "all those guys are way too professional, as she is, to let anything be a distraction," so it's not going to happen.

While admitting that he thinks about retirement "more than anyone could ever imagine," 34-year-old Kelce has already made it clear that he has no intention of retiring anytime near. As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to play the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII on February 11, Kelce and the team are getting ready. "I don't see any reason why I should stop playing football. He said to reporters in January, before the Chiefs' game against the Miami Dolphins, "I love it."
"We're still going to have success. Show up with the right mindset. I enjoy the everyday challenge it gives me to pursue excellence.
Indeed, to retire would be foolish on Kelce's part.
Before his 2023 season, Kelce appeared unstoppable in the seven NFL seasons prior to that. He had seven seasons in a row with 1,000 receiving yards, and in four of those, he scored ten touchdowns or more.
In all those years, he was either a first- or second-team All-Pro and had only missed three games since his rookie year, none of which were because of an injury. Of those three absences, two occurred in 2021 because to COVID-19, while the other occurred in 2021 because the Chiefs had already assured a postseason berth.
Due to an injury, he missed the Chiefs' opening game in 2023 for the first time since his debut season in 2013. He had a hyperextended knee. With Kansas City already in the playoffs, he also rested by missing the season's last game.
