Taylor Swift shocked the world when she announced at the Grammy Awards that she would be releasing her new album, "The Tortured Poets Department."
However, when actor Joe Alwyn heard of the announcement, he seemed to be fearing the upcoming backlash that many had also anticipated would be coming from the said album.
Joe Alwyn Scared Of Taylor Swift 'Tortured Poets Department'
The source clarified to The Daily Mail that Joe Alwyn "has not said one word" about Taylor Swift and their breakup, as he has since been "completely respectful" of her.
"It's undeniable that the name of her upcoming album is in reference to Joe's WhatsApp group chat," the source continued.
For context, the "Tortured Poets Departement" does sound like a callback on Alwyn's WhatsApp group chat. During the 2022 Variety's Actors on Actors, Oscar-nominated actor Paul Mescal revealed that he is in a WhatsApp group chat called "Tortured Man Club" with fellow Irish actor Andrew Scott.
Many Swifties and close fans of the actors caught the reference from the onset, which leads them to speculate that the actual "The Tortured Poets Department" could be an album that would talk about Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn's breakup.
"Taylor knocked him for the name of this when they were together. She didn't want people to think that it had anything to do with her, so when he spoke out about it, she was, of course, bothered," the source went on to say. "Joe has no reason to believe yet that she is going to diss him or their relationship."
The source also mentioned that Swift is known for writing using "code and points of reference."
"She writes about her past using code and points of reference. It may just be that she is reflecting on their time together and he is hoping it is nothing more," they said. "If it is a diss album, that is shady. He helped her with songwriting on her past album so it will really come as a shock to him if she talks about their breakup, as it is something he has not spoken of at all."
