Taylor Swift received backlash for allegedly ignoring Celine Dion at the 2024 Grammy Awards, but it was reportedly the "right" thing to do.
The buzz surfaced after Swift excitedly accepted the award from Dion but failed to look at the French singer. She also did not greet her and only proceeded with delivering her acceptance speech.
The drama has since been dismissed by the pair's photos taken at the event, but many still suggested that the "Anti-Hero" singer only did the right thing.
Taylor Swift Supported After the Alleged Celine Dion Snub
On social media, several users defended Swift and explained why Dion's health issue played a huge role in her actions.
One said, per The Mirror, "I'm willing to bet that Taylor was told not to touch Celine Dion. Stiff person syndrome can be triggered by noise, stress, and touch."
"The disease she has is neurological and can be painful for people to touch her. She was probably told before the show not to touch her," one wrote, while a third shared, "She was probably notified ahead of time that Celine is fragile and not to touch her. She has a rare autoimmune disease that causes painful muscle spasms."
However, other users dismissed the idea and denied the claims about Swift and Dion's drama.
Meanwhile, body language expert Judi James also defended Swift and clarified that the "Look What You Made Me Do" singer probably felt overwhelmed by the recognition at that time.
"Taylor described herself in her acceptance speech as being 'mind-blown' so that might have also been her reason for failing to greet or acknowledge the evening's other true star and global legend who had battled illness to arrive looking pitch-perfectly glamorous as the night's surprise turn, Celine Dion, as she handed Taylor her award," James went on.
Dion was diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome after feeling other symptoms that caused her to cancel her world tour. She was forced to postpone the remainder of her schedule following the confirmation of her diagnosis.
Despite her struggles, she marked her surprise appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards, where she received a heartwarming standing ovation. She also thanked everyone after her gig how happy she was to be on stage again.
