After seven seasons, Katy Perry is leaving "American Idol" so that she could focus more on her new music.
While that is a particularly valid reason to leave the show, it seems like she has a deeper reason as to why she wants to go.
Real Reason Why Katy Perry Left 'American Idol'
Fans of Katy Perry were surprised when she revealed to "Jimmy Kimmel" that she would be departing from "American Idol" after seven years as a judge.
"I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for Idol," she revealed "I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat."
However, a The Mirror insider revealed that it's more than her music endeavors.
Apparently, ABC bosses have declined her request to have a bigger payout as a judge. Katy Perry asked for a bigger pay packet than $30 million but was declined.
The source revealed that there are three factors that contributed to Perry's decision.
"Katy enjoyed the best deal for reality in TV, worth around $30m a year. It made her the (highest female star for reality and entertainment. But ABC do not want to up it after five years of increases. There is no wiggle room as the parent company Disney looks to be cost effective and keep spending down for the next couple of years," the network consultant insider shared.
The decision to refuse her bigger pay packet came from Disney's execs. Although they know that Katy is the main eye candy for people to watch the show, they also know that she's expensive.
Katy Perry Wants Bigger Family With Orlando Bloom, More Kids
Apart from this, Katy Perry also wanted a bigger family.
"Katy has always told her friends that having a bigger family has been a dream. She is 40 in the fall and loves her blended harmonious family with Orlando and his ex Miranda Kerr. But she would like a little sibling for Daisy," the insider told The Mirror. "She came from a family with a sister and really felt that aided her childhood and growing up experience. She and Angela remain tight to this day."
Lastly, Katy's love for Orlando Bloom is bursting out the seams.
"The other thing is that Katy loves how Orlando is such a super dad to his children. That has made her love him even more. She has learned from him how to balance work and personal time...one could almost argue that he has helped him really find a balance in her life because of his influence," the source added. "And let's make this clear Katy is a really hands on mum, who likes to be there for breakfast and bed time for Daisy. Being away from TV recordings increases that time."
