The Weeknd left fans feeling all sorts of things when he teased that he is back in a recording studio, working on new music.
According to Billboard, the "Blinding Lights" hitmaker shared pictures of himself in a recording studio; there was one photo of him standing behind a microphone on his Instagram Story.
Fans began speculating that the Canadian singer is working on the third installment of his album trilogy, which currently consists of "After Hours" and "Dawn FM," released in 2020 and 2022, respectively.
However, while many are rejoicing at the thought of The Weeknd releasing new music, some are dreading it because the singer announced that he would be "killing" his alter ego.
The Weeknd Retiring From Music?
In his interview with W Magazine the "Out of Time" singer revealed that he will no longer be releasing music as The Weeknd, instead, he plans to drop music as Abel Tesfaye, which is his real name.
"I'm going through a cathartic path right now," he explained in May 2023. It's getting to a place and a time where I'm getting ready to close the Weeknd chapter.
"I'll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd. But I still want to kill the Weeknd. And I will. Eventually. I'm definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn."
He then added that he was able to say "everything [he] can say" as The Weeknd, which is why the alter ego must go.
"The album I'm working on now is probably my last hurrah as the Weeknd... This is something that I have to do," he added.
