SOPHIE may not be a big name in mainstream media, but musicians have celebrated her when she was still alive and her former collaborators continue to credit her on her impact on them. More recently, Charli XCX spoke about her relationship with the late record producer and how she helped her.
The "New Shapes" hitmaker recenly appeared in the cover of The Face and during the interview, she recalled her friendship with the DJ and revealed that she wrote a song as a form of tribute to the late musician, who passed away in 2021.
She noted that initially, there was a lot of distance between the two of them as she was in awe of her and wanted her to be impressed with her music.
"She believed in me in ways that I didn't believe [in] myself. But I felt like I would never be interesting enough to operate in her world outside of the studio, which was the safe space where we could connect and bond over music," Charli XCX, whose real name is Charlotte Emma Aitchison, said. Charli XCX Felt 'Ashamed' As She Couldn't Connect With SOPHIE Anymore
Charli XCX further noted that one of the main reasons why she held back in connecting with SOPHIE was because she didn't feel like she was "magical enough" for her.
Now that the DJ is gone, she mentioned that she's ashamed because she don't have the opportunity to experience that anymore.

"I feel ashamed for being a coward. It's hard to write about. I'm sad for myself that I didn't experience all this person had to offer," she added.
What Happened to SOPHIE?
In 2021, SOPHIE attempted to take a picture of the full moon from the rooftop of a building. Unfortunately, tragedy struck as she fell three storeys high.
She was taken at the Attikon University Hospital in Athens, Greece, but she passed away at around 4 a.m. on January 30 of that year. She was only 34 years old.
Her partner, Evita Manji, issued a statement at the time and noted that she told her she love her and to keep on fighting. She also revealed that they were supposed to get married. (via The Mirror UK)
