Upon seeking relief from distressing suicidal thoughts, Melanie Brown, known as Mel B from Spice Girls, underwent a series of intense electric brain therapy sessions.
The 48-year-old singer shared in a recent interview that she discreetly traveled to a serene Balearic island towards the conclusion of last year.
For six weeks, she diligently attended these arduous treatments daily.
Mel B's Brave Battle
After undergoing electro-cranial magnetic therapy, Mel B reported feeling a rejuvenating jolt that sparked new life in her brain, which had been worn down by a decade of mistreatment and abuse at the hands of Stephen Belafonte.
She told The Sun, "The machine would bang and brrr as magnetic waves shot into my head. It was intrusive."
In detailing her experience, the "Spice Up Your Life" singer vividly recalls the process of having her head meticulously measured to enable the machine to target precise areas of the brain associated with "trauma, emotions, and depression."
After the gray cap was settled on her head, the challenging therapy session commenced, evoking deep emotions within her.
Sporty Spice recounts being overwhelmed with tears and confronted by distressing memories resurfacing.
Having exhausted options like hypnotherapy and EMDR, which utilize eye movements to address trauma, along with tapping therapy that focuses on acupressure points for anxiety relief, the individual turned to a final alternative.
Mel B revealed, "I know it sounds extreme, but I have tried other therapies. Talking therapy brought everything up again, and I didn't want to say the things that had happened to me, even to a professional."
"So I did this to guinea pig myself. I want to make sure that I can honestly say to another survivor, 'If you can't do the talking therapy because you are scared, try this."
"So I wanted to try it. Now I can honestly say it worked for me - and I am going to have another treatment."
Sporty Spice's Courageous Fight
Following her exit from a toxic marriage, Mel B transitioned into a role as a representative for the domestic abuse organization Women's Aid. In 2022, her dedicated efforts were honored with an MBE award.
In her candid autobiography "Brutally Honest," she courageously disclosed the abuse she endured from her former partner Stephen, who is also the father of her 12-year-old daughter Madi.
One particular harrowing revelation recounted an incident in December 2014 when she made an attempt on her own life during the live "X Factor" shows.
She sain in the book, "In a remote part of an island in the Balearics, I am lying back in a padded chair as a man fixes a grey cap made from high-precision elasticated fabric on my head."
"He carefully checks that all my jewelry has been removed, then gently pulls a metal contraption - containing an intricate electromagnetic coil shaped into a figure of eight - and places it on the right side of my skull-tick, tick, tick."
"A series of magnetic pulses shoots into my brain. Fifteen minutes pass. The coils move to the left side. Bang, bang, bang. This time, it hurts. I close my eyes. Surrender. I hear the man's voice, 'Are you okay, Melanie?'"
"Somewhere deep inside this head of mine, an electric current generated by a hi-tech transcranial magnetic stimulation machine is renewing, rewiring, and shocking thousands of neurons battered by years of extreme trauma, by depression I couldn't admit to and anger I couldn't shake."
"The pain I am feeling right now is fighting the pain I carry in my head, in my body, in every breath I take. It overwhelms me. A single tear leaks down my face."
"I have finally found some peace and the sleep that has eluded me for years."
