Longtime Sepultura drummer Eloy Casagrande departed from the band without warning after playing with the group for over a decade.
On Tuesday, February 27, Sepultura issued a statement confirming Casagrande's exit from the band and named his live replacement, who could join them in their upcoming farewell tour, Celebrating Life Through Death.
Why Did Eloy Casagrande Leave Sepultura?
In the Instagram statement, Sepultura noted that the band members had been preparing and planning for the farewell tour since they announced it in December. The upcoming shows, which they called a "conscious and planned death," reportedly took a year before getting materialized.
"However, on February 6th, a few days prior to the first rehearsal, drummer Eloy Casagrande informed the band that he was leaving Sepultura to pursue a career in another project. The band [was] taken by surprise without prior warning," the group said. "He immediately left the band, abandoning everything related to Sepultura."
On the other hand, Sepultura tapped Greyson Nekrutman to play behind the drum set who would also accompany them in the farewell tour.
The new drummer expressed his excitement after the recent development, saying it was an honor to contribute to the band's legacy.
"Sepultura's fearless approach to exploring new territories in the metal sphere is something that I have always admired and strived to emulate in my musical endeavors," Nekrutman continued. "I am eagerly looking forward to adding my own spirit and passion to the mix, to connecting with the fans who have supported the band through its evolution, and to the electrifying experiences we'll create together on stage."
Following the revelation, Casagrande clarified the statement in a separate Instagram post and explained his exit "will never erase my respect and gratitude to the band."
