Elton John is set to receive the Gershwin Prize for his outstanding contributions to songwriting in popular music.
His songwriting partner, Bernie Taupin, will also be receiving the award alongside him.
Elton John Gershwin Prize Award
Months after he received his Primetime Emmy Award for Oustanding Variety Special that finally sealed his EGOT status, Elton John has been announced to receive the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, celebrating their songwriting contributions in the past decade.
"I've been writing songs with Bernie for 56 years, and we never thought that that one day this might be bestowed upon us," Elton John said in a statement. "It's an incredible honor for two British guys to be recognized like this. I'm so honored."
Taupin, who has been instrumental in John's success, was also honored to receive the award.
"To be in a house along with the great American songwriters, to even be in the same avenue is humbling, and I am absolutely thrilled to accept."
As for the Librarian of Congress, Carla Hayden, Elton John and Bernie Taupin have written "some of the most memorable songs of our lives."
"Their careers stand out for the quality and broad appeal of their music and their influence on their fellow artists. More than 50 years ago, they came from across the pond to win over Americans and audiences worldwide with their beautiful songs and rock anthems. We're proud to honor Elton and Bernie with the Gershwin Prize for their incredible impact on generations of music lovers," she added in a statement.
Grammy producers Ken Ehrlich Productions will co-produce the Gershwin Gala with ERTA in Washington, D.C. and the Library of Congres.
Elton John Gershwin Prize Award Tribute Performances
According to Variety, the Elton John's Gershwin Prize Award tribute performers have been announced.
Among the performers announced were Garth Brooks, who also received the Gershwin Prize four years ago. Maren Morris, Charlie Puth, Jacob Lusk, and Annie Lennox are tapped to perform.
Actor-singer Billy Porter will also be there to perform alongside Brandi Carlile. Surprisingly, Metallica will be in attendance, too.

Morris performed on the "Restoration" album in 2018, Brooks sang "Rocket Man" in concert, while Jacob Lusk, a member of The Gabriels, is a favorite of Elton John.
