Celine Dion remembered a dear friend who passed away recently in a heartfelt Instagram post.
News of the death of former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, at age 84, emerged on February 29.
Reflecting on the loss, Celine, 55, posted a nostalgic candid pic featuring herself, her late spouse René Angélil, Brian, and his wife, Mila.
"I am so sorry to hear of the loss of our friend, the beloved former Prime Minister of Canada Brian Mulroney," the "My Heart Will Go On" singer wrote.
"My love and prayers go to you, Mila, and your whole family."
News of the death of the former prime minister comes amid new revelations that Celine Dion remains determined to embrace life even as she faces the challenges of stiff person syndrome.
Celine Dion's Medical Diagnosis
Dion announced that she was retiring from the stage due to an untreatable neurological disorder in December 2022.
Stiff person syndrome has an indefinable origin characterized by qualities of autoimmune disorders.
Researchers have identified the condition as stemming from continual muscle spasms that predominantly target the lower extremities.
Typically, individuals affected by this condition tend to be diagnosed during their fifth or sixth decade of life. The condition can result in individuals being referred to as "living statues," leading to difficulties in mobility and communication.
When faced with SPS, individuals typically find relief through high doses of diazepam, a common anti-anxiety medication.
Additionally, pain relievers can help alleviate symptoms, even though they do not offer a permanent solution to the disorder.
Fighting for Her Life
In an interview with the French publication 7 Jours, Celine's sister Claudette provided an update on the Canadian star's well-being.
As relayed by E News in a translation from French, Claudette disclosed, "Her muscle movements are uncontrollable."
"What breaks my heart is that she's always been disciplined. She's always worked hard. Our mother always told her, 'You're going to do it well, you're going to do it properly.'"
Despite facing challenges, the Grammy-winning singer went against expectations by handing Taylor Swift the Album of the Year award during the 2024 Grammys.
"When I say that I'm happy to be here," Dion shared, holding back her own emotions that threatened to overflow, "I really mean it."
