Philadelphia rocker Strand of Oaks recently announced an additional show in New York.
The Brooklyn Vegan reports that the musician, also known as Timothy Showalter, will be returning to the Big Apple in December to play the Bowery Ballroom. The artist is currently on tour and will make a stop in the city on Monday (Sept. 15) before an extensive European run from Sept. 27 to Nov. 1.
Showalter is currently supporting his summer release, HEAL, which has gotten positive reviews from various outlets. "HEAL is an album as memoir: stark and at times emotionally harrowing as it recounts with bracing candor the artist's struggles with friends, family, and most of all himself," Pitchfork, which gave the album a 7.9, wrote. "The choruses may swoop and soar, the guitars may churn valiantly, but Showalter's nostalgia for his own past is never rosy."
In a recent interview with Spin, Showalter talked about the album and his aspirations for success. "I'm not a punk rocker who's like, 'I wanna be where it's real, in basements.' I wanna play huge rooms!" he said. "I want a bunch of people to like this. I wanna be a huge band and tour and not be broke all the time. I don't know if I grabbed the opportunity and made that happen or not. My biggest fear when it comes to music is: Are people into what I'm into? With HEAL, they kind of have to like me and my weird head. I don't know if people are going to accept that."
