Madonna made some shocking revelations about her recovery journey after her hospitalization in 2023.
The Queen of Pop faced a near-death experience when she contracted a bacterial infection that led her to be intubated and put in a medically induced coma. While she survived the health setback, the recovery period was also not an easy road to take.
Madonna Reveals Her First Word After Waking Up From a Coma
For four days, Madonna was left in her hospital bed after her doctors put her in a coma. Upon opening her eyes, the "Back That Up to the Beat" singer reportedly uttered an unexpected word.
"I'm pretty sure that was God saying to me, 'Do you want to come? Want to come up with me? 'No,'" Madonna told the attendees of her Celebration Tour at Kia Forum in Los Angeles, saying the word "No" came out of her mouth when she woke up.
She soon spoke with her longtime manager, Guy Oseary, who announced her hospitalization in a statement.
"He said, 'Well, when do you think you want to go back on tour?' I took the oxygen out of my nose. I looked at him, and I said, 'in two f------ months!" she said. "I just said it. Sometimes you just have to say s--- [and] put it out in the universe. And it happens."
Following her discharge, Madonna had to undergo another lengthy process of recuperation since the health issue forced her to slow down.
Fortunately, she found the best people who helped her get back onstage - her children.
Madonna Struggled To Walk After the Health Scare
During the same show, she revealed that she struggled to walk when she wanted to be in her house's backyard and sit under the sun.
"I know that sounds insane, but it was difficult, and I didn't know when I could get up again, when I could be myself again, and when I'd have my energy back," she went on.
The "Like a Virgin" hitmaker previously spoke about her recovery being a miracle and how her mother probably watched over her.
Madonna successfully launched her tour on October 14 at the O2 Arena in London. She is set to visit over 60 more venues this year.
