Violent Femmes Reflects on Self-Titled Debut, 'Hallowed Ground'

Violent Femmes frontman Gordon Gano reflected on the making and release of their two albums, "Violent Femmes" and "Hallowed Ground," which were dropped 41 and 40 years ago, respectively.

"In fact, the tracks for Hallowed Ground were penned long before the release of Violent Femmes, but the band wanted to focus on upbeat songs for the debut album and wanted to 'confuse people' with the more experimental songs that ended up as Hallowed Ground,'" Gano explained.

The band's current lineup includes Gano, Brian Ritchie, Blaise Garza, and John Sparrow.

They rose to prominence following the release of "Violent Femmes," which spawned the hit singles "Blister in the Sun," "Kiss Off," "Add It Up," and "Gone Daddy Gone."

As of this writing, their self-titled album remains their best-selling album, having been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
