British metal band Cradle of Filth collaborated with Ed Sheeran on a song more than a year ago, and Cradle's frontman Dani Filth assures fans that it is worth the wait.
"The song's been done now for about a year and two months. It was done just before Christmas 2022," Filth told Czech site Metalshop. "The reason for the delay is because we had plans for it, and then his management said, 'Well, he's releasing a record. Can't do it now.' 'He's doing this. Can't do it now,'" Filth said. "We've got a plan for it. It's gonna actually go on our new record, which is due out the end of this year."
When asked what it would sound like since Sheeran is known for his acoustic releases while Cradle of Filth is an extreme metal band, Filth simply explained that the song perfectly combines both distinct sounds.
"People will be surprised by it, because it does sound like Ed Sheeran and it does sound like Cradle of Filth," he explained in the interview. "And it's got a blast beat. It's Cradle of Filth with Ed Sheeran. But he plays guitar and he sings like Ed Sheeran as well."
For his part, Sheeran has talked about his love of metal in and how he wasn't opposed to a collaboration with his childhood heroes. "I was really into death metal as a kid," Sheeran told UK tabloid The Sun back in 2021. "I listened to Cradle of Filth and Slipknot and all that stuff. ... I learnt all those riffs on guitar as a kid."

"I think it's gonna surprise a lot of people, the album. But it doesn't necessarily mean the album is commercial," Filth shared about the upcoming project. "It's a very heavy record. We just upped the game as a band. We moved one step further toward the future from our previous record."
Cradle of Filth has yet to share more details about its upcoming release, which will be the band's fourteenth studio album.
