Although Joe Alwyn and Taylor Swift's romance was not the lasting kind, their financial gain from one another could still be. The Eras Tour earned Swift a massive amount -- and Alwyn benefitted too!
Joe Alwyn, Taylor Swift Indefinitely Linked
While posing as William Bowery, Alwyn, 33, cowrote six songs for Swift, 34, during their lengthy romance.
Among the works he contributed to are "Exile" and "Betty" from 2020's Folklore; "Champagne Problems," "Evermore," and "Coney Island" from Evermore, the sister album; and "Sweet Nothing" from 2022's Midnights.
According to some sources, the actor, who split with Swift in 2023 after six years together, will receive "a five-figure sum every year" for his work on Swift's record.
According to a Life & Style report published earlier this month, Alwyn has earned almost $2.3 million from Spotify streams alone.
An industry source informed the magazine that he would continue to get money from streaming more and any live performances by Swift that feature the tunes.
Eras Tour Makes Joe Alwyn a Very Rich Guy
With Swift's $1 billion Eras Tour earnings, Alwyn probably receives a small portion. "Fair or not, it's made him a very rich guy," the source told L&S.
"Joe is making so much on royalties and returns from [Taylor's] Eras Tour that he doesn't ever need to worry about money again."
Swift's Folklore album featured a pen name, William Bowery, which fans quickly deduced was Alwyn. The singer later confirmed this.
"I came in and I was like, 'Hey, this could be really weird, and we could hate this, [but] because we're in quarantine and there's nothing else going on, could we just try to see what it's like if we write this song together?'" Swift said during her 2020 Disney+ film, Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions.
Swift said Alwyn wrote the "entire piano part" for "Exile," recalling, "He was just singing it, the way that the whole first verse is ... I was entranced and asked if we could keep writing that one."
Furthermore, Alwyn received the most fantastic accolade in music in 2021 for his collaboration with Swift, as Folklore took home the Album of the Year title at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. Swift offered her then-boyfriend a rare shout-out while performing.
While accepting the Grammy, she remarked, "Joe is the first person that I play every single song that I write, and I had the best time writing songs with you in quarantine."
If they hadn't been stranded at home during the coronavirus outbreak, Swift has acknowledged she didn't think she would have ever worked with Alwyn.
Swift is currently dating tight end Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, while just this month, Alwyn ignited dating rumors with costar Emma Laird of The Brutalist.
