Cecily Strong Hopes Leaving SNL's 'Weekend Update' Means She Will Be Included In More Sketches On Show

The season premiere of Saturday Night Live is just two weeks away, with guest host Chris Pratt and musical guest Ariana Grande leading us into what will hopefully amount to sketch comedy greatness. Unfortunately it was recently revealed that Cecily Strong will not be returning to her"Weekend Update" faux anchor chair and that she will instead be replaced by Michael Che, a Daily Show correspondent and SNL writer.

Needless to say fans weren't thrilled to learn of this change even though Strong will remain with the show. It's kind of ironic that they don't even seem to mind the addition of Che to the anchor desk. The real bone of contention seems to be with the fact that Colin Jost isn't being replaced rather than Strong. It would be kind of cool to see how Strong and Che would play off of each other behind the anchor desk but that doesn't seem to be in the cards, at least not yet.

As for Strong, she almost seems kind of happy to give her seat to Che and took to her Instagram to comment saying,

"I don't see this as me leaving update, just as me being on update in a looser, goofier way that is a lot more fun for me and in a way I think I'm better at. And now I get to do features with the very funny and wonderful Michael Che!"

Ultimately what this change really does mean for the fans is that they'll get to see her in more great sketches and that is what SNL hired her to do in the first place, right? Do you hope that the network fully utilizes Strong's comedic talent and timing now that they are freeing her up to just focus on that each week? How do you think that Michael Che will fit in as a new Weekend Update anchor?
