Dua Lipa Once Got Rejected From Choir: ‘The Whole School Started Laughing’

Dua Lipa may have been one of the biggest pop stars today, but there was a time back when she was studying when the entire school laughed at her because of her audition.

The musician, set to release a brand new album called Radical Optimism, recently sat down with RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars winner Trixie Mattel for a painting challenge.

The drag performer, who previously became a contestant in the Emmy Award-winning TV show's seventh season, challenged the pop star to paint the album artwork of her upcoming project.

"I can't draw. I can do my eyeliner because I mastered it on my own face... I don't really like doing things I'm not good at, and this is something I'm not good at," she admitted initially.

Regardless, the two stars started painting and did their best to recreate the album cover, which featured Lipa floating in an ocean while a shark swam near her.

Dua Lipa Once Got Rejected From a School Choir

Later, Mattel asked the musician if it was true that a school choir rejected her when she was still studying, and she confirmed that it indeed happened.

"I was in primary school and the teacher was like, 'Alright, who wants to sing and try out for the choir?' So I decided to stand up for the whole school and he started playing on the piano," she recalled. (via Billboard)

She remembered that the piano played on a "crazy high note," nothing came out from her voice, and then "the whole schools started laughing."

The person playing the piano then wished her luck the next time she auditioned.

Dua Lipa still managed to join the choir, but she noted that she was placed in the lower range rather than the higher one.

Years later, she went on to become one of the biggest pop stars in the world.
