Cola Boyy's Family Believes His Cause of Death Is Related to His Health Issues [Details]

Cola Boyy's family issued more details about his passing amid the coroner's investigation to determine the cause of death.

His label, Record Makers, and manager, Jack Sills, released statements to confirm that he died on Sunday, March 17, at the age of 34. Both releases honored him as a musician and activist, though they did not disclose what possibly led to his demise.

Cola Boyy's Family Breaks Silence on the Loss

A few days after Cola Boyy's death, his family issued exclusive details to TMZ disclosing what happened to the famed artist.

The news outlet cited the pop singer's father, Joseph Urango Jr., who revealed that Cola Boyy's twin brother discovered him in the bed, but he was no longer breathing. The "Kid Born in Space" singer was reportedly on oxygen and was still on it when his brother checked on him.

They called paramedics to their home, but the disability activist - born Matthew Urango - was pronounced dead at the scene.

While the coroner has since launched a probe to determine Cola Boyy's cause of death, his family said his passing might be related to his health issues.

The "Song for the Mister" hitmaker was born with kyphosis, scoliosis and spina bifida but did not let those affect his dreams of becoming a singer. His health conditions also made him refer to himself as the "disabled disco innovator."

Cola Boyy's label and manager first confirmed his death in separate statements.

Record Makers posted a photo of Cola Boyy on X and wrote a heartfelt message to its late artist.

"The one and only Cola Boyy, a.k.a Matthew Urango has passed peacefully last Sunday. He was quite a soul, a man with no age, a childlike spirit with the musicality of an old legend," the label captioned the post. "His lyrics, his melodies, the sound of his voice: every side of his music was unique and timeless."

Meanwhile, Sills called him "one of the most talented and down-to-earth people" he had ever met while praising the artist for his humor and charisma.

Cola Boyy Inspired People in the Music Industry

Years before Cola Boyy's death, he sat down for an interview with TMRW Magazine, during which he opened up about his life as a disabled performer and how he thrived in the industry.

"What settled me is the comfort of the people around me, anxiety is very indicative of the pressures that exist around us and this feeling of being alone is very much pushed by society, so my answer would be to not isolate ourselves and being around people, expressing your pains and worries and working together to overcome them. It's liberating and very, very important," he went on.
