Variety reports that Trisha Yearwood will receive the first-ever CMT June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award. She is being recognized for her philanthropic work, resulting from her two decades of passionately helping Habitat for Humanity, an organization she and her husband, music icon Garth Brook, have long supported. The couple also received humanitarian honors from Habitat for Humanity in 2016.
The publication reported that the June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award will be given to artists who had demonstrated an "exceptional dedication to community and their fellow artists, embodying June's spirit as a fierce advocate and initiator in paying it forward, helping others find their voice and using their platform to inspire and uplift others."
"[Yearwood] has a unique ability to rally a community, whether that may be families in need with Habitat for Humanity, or uplifting her fellow artists and entertainers trying to carve a path in the industry. She embodies the bold strength of June, who tirelessly devoted herself to service and community, and the namesake for this award. Both multi-hyphenate trailblazers eloquently crafted a script for others to model, letting their hearts and authenticity guide their personal, professional and public lives," CMT said.
Yearwood has also partnered with the American Cancer Society, the Stanford Women's Cancer Center, the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power & Potential, the Starkey Hearing Foundation, the Susan B. Komen Foundation, the Humane Society, and MusiCares, among many other initiatives.
