Fresh off the release of a remix of "Von dutch," aptly titled "The von dutch remix with addison rae and a.g.cook," British pop star Charli XCX has successfully sold out her upcoming Brat tour. The summer tour ties into the upcoming release of XCX's homonymous LP, brat. Fans have eagerly awaited a new album from the singer since her 2022 release, CRASH.
On Mar. 25, the pop music innovator sent out a text blast to fans at 11 a.m. (EST) with nothing but a link to tickets for her Brat 2024 tour. She had not teased the upcoming tour previously, instead completely surprised her fans with this seemingly random ticket release. Save for a performance at Barcelona's prestigious Primavera Sound festival, the tour has already sold out.
Within two hours of her ticket release, Charli posted, "All tour dates sold out xx" with a photo of her sporting a purple ensemble. Resale tickets are already over four times their original price.
Fans of the artist took to X (formerly Twitter) to lament about missing out on tickets.
Attaching a GIF of actress Amy Adams gasping and crying, user @tommyfication posted, "slept through charli xcx tour announcement."
Others mused about who would open for XCX, with one fan declaring that they "need addison rae to be an opener for the charli xcx tour" and posting a black-and-white photo of the two singers posed together in a bathtub.
XCX recently played a sold-out, widely buzzed-about Boiler Room show in Brooklyn, New York.
The Brat tour announcement follows the recent release of "The von dutch remix with addison rae and a.g. cook," a remix of her latest single.
Addison Rae, a Tik Tok star who's begun to earn her laurels in the pop music community, backs up XCX's confident quips, singing, "Always give me more views, it's kinda like your day job/Got a lot to say about my debut" in a challenge to the haters. Rae released her debut EP, AR, this past summer. She drops a bombastic scream part way through the "Von dutch" bridge, hitting a surprisingly on-pitch soprano yell after harmonizing with XCX, "I'm just living that life."
A long time collaborator of XCX's, a.g. cook masterfully plays with heavy synths on the "Von dutch" remix. Trilling keys run under XCX and Rae's vocals, warping the track into a forward-facing, futuristic version of itself. Rae floats above the beat, which creeps into "Vroom Vroom" territory in moments -- something more than welcome to fans of XCX. Cook sends the track up and down a heavy bass, elevating it to a dancier, punctuated sound.
XCX has yet to announce a specific release date for brat, but the album is set to drop this summer.
The Brat 2024 tour begins in June with shows in Barcelona, Spain; London; New York; Chicago; Los Angeles; Mexico City and São Paulo. The tour features not only live performances, marked as "LIVE," but also DJ shows from XCX, titled "PARTYGIRL" sets.
