A body language expert analyzed and criticized Travis Kelce's body language when he received his diploma at a special University of Cincinnati commencement exercise on April 12, 2024.
Kelce finished his remaining credit hours to complete his interdisciplinary studies degree in 2022, while his older brother, Jason, completed his degree in marketing. The Kelce brothers received their diplomas in a special ceremony conducted by the University while they taped a live show for their "New Heights" podcast at the UC's Fifth Third Arena.
Travis Kelce Body Language Criticized During Chaotic Graduation Moment
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Travis and Jason finally received their diplomas after finishing their degrees at the University of Cincinnati. They had each failed to attend their respective ceremonies, so the school decided to give them a night to remember.
When Travis walked on stage to receive his diploma, he chugged a beer while standing by the University's president onstage. The Chiefs tight end downed the beer while the Beastie Boys' song "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (to Party)" -- Travis' anthem -- blasted in the arena.
After finishing, he slammed the beer can on the floor and went on to give a speech. At the end of it, he screamed: "You've got to fight for your right to party!"
Body language expert Judi James spoke to The Daily Mail about Travis' antics, saying he was "caught in a state of eternal teenager."
According to James, "There's adult, husband material and then there's this," referring to Travis' actions during the ceremony.
"Receiving his graduation certificate on stage from two polite and formally gowned men, Travis decides to take the moment to show the world how he can guzzle beer from a can, throwing his head back like a showman to drop the beer from a height so it pours out of his mouth and down over his chin," James explained.
Travis Kelce: An Attention-Seeker?
In James' interview with the outlet, she also described Kelce as a "rebellious teenager," saying that his display looks "attention-seeking."
"Many leading sportspeople can get caught in a state of eternal teenager and this does look like telling behavior from a 34-year-old man who is rumored to be prepping to propose to America's current sweetheart," she added. "Heroes can have fun and they can celebrate a win but more usually out on pitch than like this on a stage when some level of maturity might have been called for."
Fans have echoed the sentiment on social media, saying that his actions are "top tier cringe."
"Chiefs fans and swifties are so upset that I called their sweet prince Travis Kelce cringe I'm sorry, but please explain to me how slamming a half full beer on the ground at a fake college graduation isn't cringe ," another said.
