Katy Perry Leads 2014 EMA Nominations With Seven Nods As Ariana Grande Trails Her With Six

The 2014 EMA's will be taking place on November 9th in Glasgow, Scotland and finally we have a list of nominees to ruminate on. Katy Perry, who has hosted the event and already raked in four awards is leading the pack this time around. She has scored 7 nominations in nearly every top category- best females, best pop, best U.S. act and best live- for "Dark Horse" featuring Juicy J. Hot on Perry's heels is Ariana Grande who really broke through this year. Her six nods include top categories like best new, best pop and best female.

Following right behind the ladies with five nominations is Pharrell Williams and 5 Seconds of Summer. Meanwhile Sam Smith, Nicki Minaj, Eminem, Iggy Azalea and One Direction all grabbed four nominations. Ed Sheeran, Eminem, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams and Justin Bieber are all doing battle in the best male category. Best alternative looks pretty interesting as well with the likes of Thirty Seconds To Mars, Paramore, Lorde, Fallout Boy and Lana Del Rey all in contention for the same gong.

Best song is always a favorite category and at the 2014 EMA's Katy Perry's "Dark Horse" will be up against Grande's "Problem" featuring Iggy Azalea, Smith's "Stay With Me", Williams' "Happy" and Eminem's "The Monster" featuring Rihanna.

The competition is tight and it looks like MTV has a great night planned for fans. The network is also going to do a 2014 EMA U.S. pre-show telecast live from Miami beginning at 7p.m. on November 9. Voting is already open in all categories and won't actually close until Nov. 8. Will you be tuning in to watch your favorites on the 2014 EMA's? Who do you think will walk away as this years' biggest winners? Tell us in the comments below!
