YoungBoy Never Broke Again (NBA YoungBoy) was arrested in Utah on April 16.
The rapper was booked into Cache County Jail early on Tuesday evening. He initially faced six charges: pattern of unlawful activity, procurement or attempted procurement of drugs or prescriptions, identity fraud, forgery, possession of other controlled substances and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.
Now, the rapper is facing 63 charges in relation to his alleged involvement in a massive prescription fraud operation. The charges break down to 20 counts of identity fraud, 20 counts of obtaining a prescription under false pretenses and 20 counts of forgery.
YoungBoy is also being charged with one count each of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, engaging in a pattern of unlawful activity and possession of a controlled substance.
The rapper and his cohorts were caught allegedly attempting "to obtain various prescription drugs, including promethazine with codeine" from pharmacies in Utah. They are accused of impersonating a physician and using fraudulent prescriptions.
The 24-year-old is no stranger to getting in legal hot water. His first brush with the law came in 2014 when he was charged with robbery as a teenager. Since then, he has faced a plethora of firearm charges along with kidnapping, battery, assault and attempted murder charges.
Since 2022, YoungBoy has been living in Utah on house arrest. The house arrest sentence was a means of keeping the rapper "out of trouble."
He was arrested in 2020 on firearm charges pertaining to a music video he was shooting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Following this particular arrest, YoungBoy's lawyer, James Manasseh, claimed that "there was no indication that [YoungBoy] had any guns or drugs on him at the time of the arrest. I ultimately believe he will be found innocent in all of this."
Following an arrest in California in March 2021 by federal agents, YoungBoy remained in jail until October, when he was released on a $1.5 million bail.
YoungBoy was found not guilty on one of his 2020 firearms charges in July 2022, but is still in the midst of a trial for the other. The trial paused in March as the U.S. Supreme Court will be opining a decision concerning the Second Amendment that could impact YoungBoy's charges.
Both a firearm and prescription drugs were found during a search of YoungBoy's Huntsville, Utah home this week. A 10-page report was released following YoungBoy's Tuesday arrest, which divulged more details about alleged incidents where the rapper and his associates attempted to acquire prescription drugs. Based upon the report, the scheme could have begun as early as September 2023.
On several occasions, an associate of YoungBoy's was able to call in and pick up a prescription for Promethazine with Codeine. In most cases, the prescription would be called in for an older female patient, but would be picked up by a young man.
YoungBoy is currently being held in federal custody, where he will remain until a bond revocation hearing is scheduled.
