Taylor Swift just released her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, and many fans think several of the songs are about her relationship with Joe Alwyn. When the two were still together, it was reported that the actor wanted to keep his romance with the pop star "personal."
According to People magazine, the couple broke up in April 2023, a year after dating for six years. Today (April 19), after the release of her new album, a source told the outlet that the actor intentionally kept his relationship with the singer private.
"[the relationship] took a lot of people by surprise... but he wasn't showing off in some way," the insider said of Alwyn's friends' reaction when they found out about the romance.
Even though the public was interested in their romance, Alwyn wanted to keep the relationship out of the public eye to remain "his own personal story."
However, Swift appears to have addressed their romance in the new song "So Long, London," which features the lyrics, "I stopped trying to make him laugh / Stopped trying to drill the safe / And I'm pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free."
Taylor Swift Don't Want to Hide Her Relationship From the Public Eye
The recent news comes after an old interview with the pop star resurfaced before TTPD's release. In the video, the singer explained that she didn't like hiding her romance from the public.
"It all depends on who you're with... If they have a serious issue with it, then you, I guess, hide or whatever. But I don't really like that," she explained at the time. (via Page Six)

Swift further explained that hiding relationships feels like running from the law, and she didn't want to feel like she was a "fugitive" just for loving someone.
Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce Romance Is Very Public
Now, the pop star is in a relationship with NFL player Travis Kelce. Contrary to her romance with Joe Alwyn, the two are constantly surrounded by cameras and don't seem to mind showing their affection in public.
The last time they were seen was at last weekend's Coachella, where they watched several performers like Bleachers, whose frontman is Swift's producer, Jack Antonoff.
