Kelsea Ballerini has taken legal action against a fan by filing a temporary restraining order in a move to protect her unreleased music.
The order prevents the individual from unlawfully accessing and distributing her music before its official release.
Ballerini's Legal Battle
According to court documents reported by People magazine, the artist has accused Bo Ewing of sharing her unfinished music files without permission.
The alleged hacker reportedly obtained access to Ballerini and her producer, Alysa Vanderheym's private data, leading to the unauthorized distribution of the artist's unreleased masters and demos.
According to the records, Bo has reportedly participated in her fan community in the past and has been a vocal advocate for her professional endeavors.
In court records obtained by the outlet, Ewing was characterized as having "since become disenfranchised with Ms. Ballerini."
Among those who brought forth the legal action are Ballerini, Vanderheym, and Black River Entertainment.
Per People magazine, an injunction was granted, at their request, to safeguard the music from further sharing.
Operating out of Ohio, Ewing distributed the unfinished music files to multiple external parties.
According to Ballerini's rep, "Protection of an artist's music is of the upmost importance. Artists spend countless hours perfecting their craft and telling stories through their music."
They went on to say, "Stealing and sharing unfinished music is illegal and harms the integrity of the creative process."
Her Success
In a recent interview with Grammy.com, Ballerini, a singer-songwriter nominated for four Grammy awards, shared insights into her creative process.
The country star revealed, "I started writing songs by myself that always came from whatever I was feeling and being honest about that because I never had any intention of anyone ever hearing them."
The legal battle comes fresh off the heels of her successful hosting stint at the 2024 CMT Awards in Austin, Texas, weeks after charming audiences with her fourth consecutive hosting gig.
In addition to presenting awards and engaging in a lighthearted mind-reading activity with Lainey Wilson, Carly Pearce, and Jelly Roll, "I Quit Drinking" singer graced the stage to showcase a fresh and re-envisioned rendition of her first hit single, "Love Me Like You Mean It."
At the age of 30, hailing from Tennessee, the rising talent inked a deal with Black River Entertainment when she was just 19 years old.
