Eminem celebrated 16 years of sobriety on social media on April 20.

The 51-year-old musician posted a picture of his hand carrying a sobriety chip, a mark of his continued dedication to rehabilitation, on social media. The rapper has been transparent about his battle with substance addiction disorder.

The words "Unity Service Recovery" and a picture of a tree were printed on the coin.

Marshall Mathers, a native of Detroit, received a barrage of congratulations on his milestone from admirers on Instagram after he chose not to add a caption to his photo.

One fan said, "We're all proud of you."

Another said, "So so so happy for you, keep inspiring us!"

Eminem went to treatment in 2008 to overcome his addiction to drugs like Ambien, Vicodin, and Valium, following a methadone overdose episode.

The Grammy-winning rapper opened up about his addiction to Vibe in May 2009; he estimated that he took large dosages of Ambien, Valium, and other drugs in addition to "between 10 and 20" Vicodin every day.

He said, "I don't even know what I was taking, the numbers became that high."

In reference to the overdose episode, he disclosed that he was given medication by a "acquaintance," which he later found out was methadone, a drug that is frequently used to aid heroin users in their withdrawal.

He admitted that his physician had told him that the amount of methadone he had taken was the same as injecting four bags of heroin. "Had I known it was methadone, I probably wouldn't have taken it," he told the magazine.

He added, "But as bad as I was back then, I can't even say 100 percent for sure ... even when they told me I almost died, it didn't click."

Eminem New Album 2024

Meanwhile, it was reported last month that Eminem is getting ready to drop his first album in four years.

Jimmy Kimmel Live had Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, and Snoop Dogg as guests on Tuesday night, March 19.

A question of Shady possibly releasing new music with them was posed to the three during the conversation.

"Let me explain something," Dre said. "Eminem is working on his own album, which is coming out this year. I actually talked to him and he said it was OK to make that announcement here on this show."

"He has an album coming out. I've got songs on it. It's fire," Dre added. "I'm actually going to hear the album for the first time tomorrow. He holds his music close to his chest. I haven't heard anything. I haven't even heard everything complete that I've done. But I'm going to hear it and he's putting out an album this year."
