Sean "Diddy" Combs' legal team submitted a request to the courts seeking the dismissal of certain aspects of the sexual assault case initiated by Joi Dickerson-Neal.
The motion argues that the in the music industry figure should not be held accountable for alleged violations of laws that were not in place at the time, as reported by the Associated Press.
In particular, the claim asserts that during the incident involving Dickerson-Neal in 1991, specific laws referenced in her lawsuit, such as those about revenge porn and human trafficking, had not been established. The court has yet to decide this issue.
Diddy Sued from A Case In The 90s
Allegations surfaced from Dickerson-Neal, claiming that she was drugged and sexually assaulted by the rapper and producer, who purportedly recorded the traumatic incident.
Disputing the accusations, Diddy rejected them, as said by his representative, "This last-minute lawsuit is an example of how a well-intentioned law [New York State's Adult Survivors Act] can be turned on its head. Ms. Dickerson's 32-year-old story is made up and not credible. Mr. Combs never assaulted her and she implicates companies that did not exist. This is purely a money grab and nothing more."
More Legal Fight
In February 2023, allegations arose against Diddy by producer Rodney "Lil Rod" Jones. In a separate legal complaint, it was alleged that former Motown Records CEO Ethiopia Habtemariam was implicated in a criminal operation involving drug and human trafficking within the mogul's purported "RICO enterprise."
The lawsuit specifically accused him of knowing that the drinks served during her events were spiked with illicit substances. Following recent developments, Jones decided to part ways with his legal counsel, Tyrone Blackburn, who has now removed her from the case.
Habtemariam said, "I am informed and believe that Mr. Blackburn has falsely represented to various social media sites and other media outlets that I agreed to 'testify against' Mr. Combs."
"This is completely untrue. I have no personal knowledge of any alleged wrongdoing by Mr. Combs and there is nothing I could testify to that would be against his interest."
"Being falsely accused of criminal conduct is deeply upsetting to me. I did no wrong. I never saw or participated in any alleged racketeering enterprise, and I never saw, aided or, abetted, or tried to conceal any sex trafficking activit," she added.
"In short, there is no basis for any of the claims asserted against me, and I should never have been named a defendant in this lawsuit."
In conclusion, she said, "My counsel provided a revised declaration that addressed the topics that Mr. Blackburn addressed and corrected his false narrative. I am aware that Mr. Blackburn found my truthful version to be unsatisfactory to him and he presented yet another version that again presented a false narrative."
