Britney Spears' Broadway musical was completely shut out from this morning's Tony Award nominations.
The production, Once Upon a One More Time, was one of the very few musicals that were eligible but received no nominations for this year's ceremony. Other notable snubs included Huey Lewis' musical, The Heart of Rock & Roll, and Barry Manilow's Harmony. No actors, writers, directors, or choreographers involved with the musical were recognized for their work.
The musical featured Spears' iconic catalog of songs, including hit songs like "Toxic," "Womanizer," "Hit Me Baby (One More Time)," and "Piece of Me" to tell a story that fused together fairy tales like Cinderella, Snow White, The Little Mermaid, and more.
The musical opened last June, featuring a cast that included American Idol alum Justin Guarini, and closed less than three months later after under 100 performances. While the musical was praised for its choreography and strong performances, it received negative reviews from theater critics for its weak plot. It also faced low ticket sales, with many weeks of performances only filling half of the theater.
Spears did not attend a performance of the musical at any point throughout its run, although she did attend an early workshop rehearsal. It was conceived while she was under her conservatorship, it was fully authorized by her and ended up being one of her first creative projects after the conservatorship ended. The Grammy-winner took to Instagram on opening night to share her thoughts on the musical.
"Good luck to the hardworking cast and crew of 'Once Upon a One More Time' on opening night tonight," she wrote with her signature use of emojis. "I've seen the show and it is so funny, smart and brilliant!!!"
The Tony Awards nominations were instead led by Alicia Keys' musical, Hell's Kitchen, which received 13 nominations. Here Lies Love, which includes music by David Byrne and Fat Boy Slim, also received four nods. Ingrid Michaelson, who wrote the music for the Broadway adaptation of The Notebook, was also snubbed for her work.

Spears has made headlines recently as reports surfaced that she was "going broke" after excessively spending her money on lavish vacations. After the rumors spread, also about her allegedly "extreme" mood swings, another source shared that she is not going broke.
"She's not broke, but she definitely could benefit from being more careful with her cash," a source revealed.
While Spears has repeatedly stated that she has quit the business, she is still making "very significant" royalties from her recently-released memoir, The Woman In Me. She also gains income from her extensive music catalog, which includes the recent Elton John remix, "Hold Me Closer."
After the reports were spread, Spears deleted her frequently-active Instagram account. However, as she typically does, the account was put back up several hours later. She did not choose to address the rumors, instead posting videos of her riding horses.
