System of a Down lead Serj Tankian is condemning the United States political system.
He slams Donald Trump, stating that his potential return to office is a "f--ing scary thought" his presidency was "all about himself."
"Donald Trump is an absolute maniac," he told Metal Hammer. "He's only interested in himself, his own ego, his own everything. He doesn't even care about other Republicans, it just happened to be the party that he took. He's a showman, he's almost unreal, but he is very dangerous."
"I would say that the propensity of Trump, liking authoritarianism, enjoying authoritarianism, would be dangerous for the world," he continued.
While Tankian does not sound impressed by the former president, he is not all-in on Joe Biden either.
"I'm not saying that I'm a big fan of Joe Biden and what the Democrats have done either," Tankian continued. "I just heard a figure that there are more independents in America than ever in American history, because both parties have been completely missing the point of what's going on."
Tankian is a fan of former-Democrat Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the nephew of the late president John F. Kennedy. Tankian cited Kennedy Jr. as a strong representation of a third party candidate.
"There are other candidates that have a lot more potential like RFK Jr, for example, but these two parties have a stranglehold on the system." He said that in a "perfect world" a candidate like RFK would "take over, and not be a Democrat nor a Republican."
When faced with the decision to pick one of the two primary parties, Tankian appears to be siding with the Democrats. He referred to Trump as "very dangerous, very dangerous" and considers the former president to be "an extreme, he's a right-wing extremist."
"He's not a center-of-the-road Republican or Democrat."
"It's a threat to democracy, it's a threat to the world. I can't think of a world where Trump takes over again, I really can't," he said.
He expressed his concern about "half of a country, what the numbers are" supporting someone like Donald Trump. He finds this "incredibly disconcerting."
Outside of sharing his political beliefs, Tankian has been promoting an upcoming EP called Foundations. The solo project is due out in September. The EP's first single,"A.F. Day," arrives mid-May. The record is a "vital and raw anthem."
Tankian described "A.F. Day" as "a song I wrote in the early days of [System of a Down] that I never released. The majority of the instrumentation and vocals are recordings from that time. Dystopian in mood, it's a reflection of the angst and anti-authoritarian attitude I had to conformity."
"Submission of the population at large/The blind man cannot see all the marchers on the opposite side/Another day," sings Tankian on the fiery track.
Tankian also recently completed a memoir, Down with the System, which will be released on May 14.
