Kelly Clarkson Forgets Own Lyrics While Battling Anne Hathaway for the Second Time: 'My Kryptonite'

Anne Hathaway did it again - make Kelly Clarkson question her musical prowess and forget her own songs.

This is the context when the 42-year-old Clarkson made the remark, "Anne Hathaway is never invited back," after Hathway already won two rounds of the "Pop Pop Quiz" on Tuesday, April 30, on an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show.

"I'm just kidding. This is actually becoming a schtick for our show," she then said.

In this game, Hathaway and Clarkson were called to engage in a competition to complete a "lyric" but it appears that the actress is better at the game than the singer herself.

Anne Hathaway is Kelly Clarkson's Kryptonite

"As we've witnessed, Kelly Clarkson doesn't always know her own lyrics. But that's OK because what doesn't kill you makes you a fighter, and makes your footsteps even ... what?" Amber Ruffin, who was hosting the game, asked.

"Lighter!" said Clarkson, pressing her button animatedly. She then proclaimed, "That's Christina Aguilera!" after that.

It was an obvious mistake to say Aguilera. A funnier one, considering that this is a lyric from her own song "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)."

It was even more amusing to note that before she realized her mistake, she thought she answered perfectly and that Hathaway just let her have the round.

"Did you wait? Don't you pity me!" Clarkson asked Hathaway after she won that round.

Hathaway denied this allegation, saying "I didn't wait on that one. No, I genuinely didn't know that one."

When she realized her mistake though (which did not happen until the end of the game), Clarkson would admit that Hathaway makes her weak when it comes to remembering her own songs.

She would speak directly to the cameras as she said, "So, you'll notice, America, if you know my catalog at all, 'cause I don't, I thought I was singing Christina Aguilera's song 'Fighter,' and I was singing mine, 'Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)."

"It's one of those days. Anyway, Anne Hathaway is my kryptonite. It's fine," she added.

The song "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" by Clarkson from 2011 features the lyrics, "What doesn't kill you makes a fighter / Footsteps even lighter."

Second Time Anne Hathaway Made Clarkson Forget Own Song

This is the second time that Clarkson failed in a musical game against Hathaway. In a 2022 episode of her daytime talk program, Clarkson faced up against The Idea of You star and failed to recognize her own song in a game of "Name That Tune."

While Kelly Clarkson is a pop icon, Anne Hathaway is the undisputed connoisseur of pop music. On Tuesday's episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the host and Hathaway squared off once more in a musical trivia match.

The actress previously defeated Clarkson in a game of "Sing That Name That Tune" during an appearance in March 2022. Hathaway even outperformed the singer in recognizing her own Grammy-winning tune, "Since U Been Gone."
