As Katy Perry prepares to make her departure from American Idol this month, one country star is gearing up to take her spot: Jelly Roll.

There has yet to be an official announcement of who will replace Perry when she finishes up her seven-season run on Idol, but Jelly Roll is more than willing to step up to the plate.

Perry earlier expressed that she thinks the "Son of a Sinner" singer is the perfect fit for the job.

In an interview with E! News, Perry said that it was "crazy when [Jelly Roll] came on the show." She found herself "convinced at anything he said."

"He could run for president. He could be my pastor. I might go back to church for him. He could sell me anything," said Perry.

She complimented Jelly Roll on his honesty and integrity, saying that these are qualities that are important for an American Idol judge.

"I want someone who's not afraid to tell the truth in a graceful way. So, just someone who has a strong sense of self that listens to their intuition," she continued. "I want a truth-teller, that's what I want."

Jelly Roll reacted with joy at Perry's endorsement.

In an interview with Kelli Green and Guy David, co-hosts of morning show Kelli & Guy, Jelly revealed his excitement at the prospect of joining Idol.

"Katy Perry obviously said you might be a great replacement for American Idol. You've been on it before, is that something you'd consider if that was an option?" asked Guy.

"Of course! I love American Idol. Consider? I've accepted the job and they haven't offered it," he exclaimed.

"How cool of Katy, though?" he stated. He explained that when he and wife Bunnie XO were backstage with the Teenage Dream singer, she turned to him and said: "I'm telling you, you need to replace me."

"She's always loved people who are the same way publicly that they are privately. Some people will tell you how great you are privately then won't post your album," he said of Perry.

"For her to immediately, in the first interview she gets asked, bring me up. I'm like, 'I love you Katy!' But that's just who she is. Katy is one way all the time," he added.
