Selena Gomez delivered a powerful message during the recent Rare Beauty Mental Health Summit.
On Wednesday, May 1, Gomez held the third iteration of her Rare Beauty Mental Health Summit in New York City as part of her mental health advocacy work.
In this event, the singer discussed the various ways she tried to protect her headspace and maintain a healthy mental status.
Selena Gomez Opens Up About Her Social Media Activities
Speaking with Today's Hoda Kotb, Gomez also revealed the reason why she disabled all her comments on her Instagram photos.
"I think I've created boundaries to help me. Obviously people fussed about it. They fuss about everything," said Gomez. "I felt empowered by doing that by saying, 'This is just for me.'"
In 2023, the Rare Beauty Mental Health Summit raised $7 million and helped over 1 million young people in five continents. According to its social impact report, it aims to reach a $100 million goal.
Gomez later posted an update on Instagram to celebrate the recent event's success.
"Our 3rd annual @rarebeauty Mental Health Summit has me leaving inspired by the next generation, filled with so much hope, and grateful to each of you for being on this meaningful journey with us. Mental health means so much to me and I'm honored we get to share this mission with the world together. Thank you to everyone who joined us and continues to use their voice for good!," she captioned the post.
Selena Gomez Has Taken Social Media Breaks Several Times
To protect her mental health, the "Lose You to Love Me" singer has to occasionally not be active on social media and even deactivate her accounts.
Her latest break happened on January 9, nine days after she appeared in the headlines following her Golden Globes attendance.
Vulture cited reports claiming Timothée Chalamet dissed her in a comment on an E! News Instagram post (a post that can no longer be located at this moment) for allegedly gossiping about the Wonka actor and Kylie Jenner.
Chalamet has since dismissed the claims.
In addition, Gomez clarified that she told Taylor Swift about two of her friends who hooked up.
"I'm off social for a while," Gomez wrote. "I'm focusing on what really matters."
She returned a few hours later and uploaded a video featuring her boyfriend, Benny Blanco, and two children.
Before this, she also took a break on October 2023 after saying her heart could not take the "hate, violence and terror" around the world.
